We find this product to be an essential safety feature for our RV! These come in 30 Amp and 50 Amp (what we have) as well as in-line or hardwired (what we have). This provides a barrier between the campgrounds power and the electric systems in your RV. If anything isn’t right with the campground power whether it be too low of voltage, too high of voltage or the power is inconsistent, this will cut power or burn out before the system in your RV takes damage!
You never know where you are going to end up with your RV and sometimes you only have access to 30 Amp power. Due to this we make sure we always carry this 30 Amp to 50 Amp adapter. This allows us to keep just a 50 Amp power cord for everything we do and bring this out when needed. As well we love to boondock and our generator only output 30 Amps so we actually use this quite a lot!
With our current boondocking setup we use a generator to supplement power. We learned the hard way that you need more than just the generator and power cord to get power to the RV when using a surge protector. This little piece plugs into one of the outlets on our generator and allows the generator to ground the RV system since it does not have a ground in the generator frame. This can be a confusing concept so feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
This product is one of those nice to have items. Sometimes when we are out boondocking at Harvest Hosts the host might offer a free 15 Amp connection that we will use to charge up our batteries. This allows up to go all the way from 50 Amps down to 15 Amps with the use of our standard cord and the other adapter listed in this section. Not something you need to buy right away but has come in handy for us more than once!
We’ve talked a lot about some of the places we have boondocked and we could not have done it without this generator. Some of the things we love about it is that it can run on propane or gasoline and is still light enough that Derek can put it in the back of our truck by himself. We bought out unit at Costco due to the price and the fact that we could return it and get a new one if anything went wrong. As a bonus you could a second generator and with a parallel kit be able to get a 50 Amp output. We find it super easy to use and maintain so if you are in the market for a generator we highly recommend this one!
This product isn’t something that everyone needs but if you work on the road and travel around a lot it comes in handy! We use two of these in our RV, one for the internet and the other for Derek’s computers. What this does is two fold, first it protects anything plugged into it from any surges in the electric signal so your electronics dont fry and second is to provide temporary power in the event of a power outage. Having these features have saved us when we had a breaker pop while boondocking and allowed the internet to stay up long enough to look into where we could get new one and make WIFI calls. I’m grateful for the piece of mind that these can provide.
